How to protect your email
Is email secure without a data encryption system?
All organizations currently share sensitive information by email which can lead to the information being intercepted by cybercriminals. The only way to assure that the content shared by our organization is received only by the recipient is by implanting a digital signature and data encryption system for our email.
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Berne, Switzerland, was inaugurated on October 9, 1874 and to celebrate its anniversary each year the date was declared World Post Day. From that date until today, some 130 years later, when we think of mail most of us think directly of email; heavily present in our daily lives and that has gradually managed to win over traditional mail both among users and organizations.
This increase in the use of electronic mail is due to the investment that society has made in new technologies creating what is known as a digital society.
Within the corporate world, email is the means of communication par excellence and its use is increasing year after year.
According to a recent study, there are approximately 109 billion emails sent and received from the work place every day, thus confirming the extended use of this tool as a means of transmitting information between organizations.
Faced with this data, we must ask ourselves: Is email a secure channel? Can I trust that the information sent or received will only be received and viewed by the recipient?
The answer is that it will be secure if we have a robust system for email encryption and eSign within our organization.
All organizations, both public and private, share vast amounts of sensitive information through this medium and to ensure that this critical information is not intercepted along the way, email security is fundamental and a priority for organizations.

Digital signature reduces the risks of phishing and other types of attacks orchestrated by cybercriminals whose purpose is to steal or use our identity online.
Furthermore, encryption protects and authenticates the content of the email, converting it into something real and confidential as it cannot be intercepted nor can its content be altered.
Ultimately, if we are not committed to the use of digital signature and encryption in our emails, the breach of security will widen and cybercriminals will take advantage of this weakness to commit identity theft.

In this regard, we can find examples of not executing the proper measures in recent news; such as the fraudulent access to email accounts of the Mexican Government with the consequences being that of sensitive information being leaked from the country.
